Water Safety Tips For ChildrenIf you are a water creature in your past life and you love beaches and swimming pools then you are definitely aware of how parents can be negligent of the safety of their children. Children may be very young but if you instill discipline and constantly remind of the need for safety, they will most likely follow you t a certain point. Here are water safety tips for children and parents alike: • Always remember to be within your adult supervisor’s reach or view. This is a very important water safety tip for children. An adult supervisor may be a parent, sitter, nanny or any adult assigned to look after you. Since there are many things that parents cannot do by themselves like performing CPR, it is suggested that you should check for one when visiting a pool or a beach. Allow your children to explore around the pool, but be mindful of where they are and don’t let them stray too far from you. • Learn how to swim’ better yet, teach your children how to swim. It is obvious why both adults and children should learn how to swim before they even go swimming. Swimming skills is a required skill for pool safety and even babies can be taught how to swim. Now, if you don’t know how to swim yet, better enroll the whole family in swimming classes and make it bonding time as well. While you are still learning how to swim, you should use personal-floatation-devices approved by the U.S Coast Guard. But do not rely solely on “floaties”, since some of them may fail, either the “floaties” loose air or loose fit. • Do not be overactive. This water safety tip for children may seem to be less important than the others. Because if they cannot be overactive, then how can they have fun while swimming? That is true but if you practice over-activity, like running in the pool deck, pushing your friend in the pool or even diving without proper training, then you might end up hurting yourself or worse your friends. • Be knowledgeable of the water environment. This water safety tip for both adults and children takes time to do but you will reap the rewards of taking a little effort to discover your surroundings. You should know the water features of the place where you will swim. If you are to swim in a pool, you should know its depth and always practice feet-in-first while being close to the pool edges. In beaches, lakes or springs, always ask an adult to accompany you before attempting to swim. • Children should always listen and follow adult instructions. Among all the tips, this is what you should always follow. Adults can give as many safety tips to children but if the latter do not listen then it is of no use. Children should listen to their instructions carefully and remember to follow them. If you follow the basic safety precautions in swimming then you will be able to enjoy your swimming activity more and prevent water-related accidents in the future. An ounce of prevention on both the children and adult’s part will always save the day. |
